Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan stated that the state government maintains a firm stance regarding the Vande Mataram controversy. Clarifying that the government’s position will become evident during the Independence Day celebrations on August 15, he assured that action will be aligned with the UDF’s core policy.
He noted that the central guidelines mandate the singing of Vande Mataram in its entirety, with provisions for up to three years of imprisonment for disrespecting or refusing to sing it. However, he emphasized that the Congress-led UDF government has its own clear policy on the matter and will proceed strictly in accordance with it.
“The government has a clear vision regarding the Independence Day celebrations, and the UDF has a well-defined policy on this issue. August 15 is not far away, and everyone will understand our stance then,” the Chief Minister said.
Acknowledging that the relevant notification regarding the rendition of Vande Mataram has been issued, Satheesan reiterated that the state government and the ruling UDF alliance will strictly stick to their established principles while making decisions.
