KASARAGOD: The mortal remains of Akhil Joel, a native of Vellarikundu in Kasaragod who was killed in a ship attack in Ukraine, have been brought to his residence. The body reached his home via Bengaluru around 12:50 PM. The body was brought back to his native place after an agonizing wait of over a month.
It was on July 19 that Akhil Joel, son of the Joel-Sally couple residing at AKG Nagar in Vellarikundu, was killed in a Russian attack. The cargo ship named ‘Golden Leo’, where Akhil served as the First Officer, was attacked off the coast of Odesa in Ukraine.
Public homage will be paid at the Vellarikundu Little Flower Forane Church premises between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. Following this, the funeral prayers and burial service will take place.
