THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Swami Golokanandaji Maharaj (94), former head of the Ramakrishna Math, has attained Samadhi. Following public homage, the final rites and cremation were performed at the Nettayam Ramakrishna Math.
Born on March 25, 1933, into the Thombil family in Kidangannoor, Aranmula, he was named Narayanakutti in his pre-monastic life. He was the son of Sivarama Pillai and Janaki Amma from Mannar. After completing his primary education in local schools in Kidangannoor and Mezhuveli, he pursued a diploma in Civil Engineering following his tenth-grade studies.
He joined the Ramakrishna Math as a Brahmachari during 1953-54. Later, in 1963, he received Sannyasa initiation from Swami Madhavananda, the then President of the Ramakrishna Order. He spent decades in dedicated spiritual and social service.
