The Union Government has reconstituted the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The arrival of the newly constituted board, featuring 18 appointed members, comes amid ongoing debates and controversies surrounding film certification.
Sources in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting stated that the reconstitution of the board had been pending for a long time as some previous members became inactive, while others passed away or completed their terms. Typically, the board is reconstituted every three years. The CBFC was last reconstituted with 12 members in 2017.
The newly inducted members include director Priyadarshan, prominent actors Manoj Joshi, Suniel Shetty, Preity Zinta, Pankaj Tripathi, and Prosenjit Chatterjee, composer Ricky Kej, alongside Vinod Anupam, Abhishek Jain, Hans Raj Hans, Supriya Yarlagadda, Yatindra Mishra, Rupali Ganguly, Nila Madhab Panda, Pallavi Joshi, Nishigandha Wad, Waman Kendre, and Ramesh Patange.
