Commonwealth Games: Mirabai Chanu Clinches Third Consecutive Gold; Tells Media “Haven’t Eaten in 2 Days, Make it Fast”.

Glasgow: Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu ended India’s three-day gold drought at the Commonwealth Games. Mirabai’s achievement proved once again that she is the undisputed queen of Indian weightlifting. This marks Chanu’s third consecutive Commonwealth Games gold medal.

A gold medal for Mirabai in the women’s 48 kg category was almost certain on Sunday. It has now been revealed that the 31-year-old Manipuri athlete secured her third gold medal without having eaten anything for two days. Mirabai also set a new Commonwealth Games record in the clean and jerk category. As the victorious champion stood on the podium and media personnel rushed to take pictures, her candid remark caught everyone’s attention.

“Please make it fast. I haven’t eaten anything for two days,” said Mirabai Chanu. Standing at the top of the podium, the athlete grew emotional as the national anthem played. Speaking after the win, Mirabai acknowledged that her mother and coach Vijay Sharma supported her through every triumph and setback. “I was under a lot of pressure from my family and friends. I am very happy to have won my third gold,” she said after the match.

Mirabai Chanu delivered a dominant performance that left her competitors far behind. Second-placed Ruth Asuquo Nyong of Nigeria lifted a total of 168 kg—22 kg behind Mira. Despite missing her initial attempt, Mira bounced back strongly to capture the gold medal.
