Kollam: The Motor Vehicles Department and Kerala Police have initiated stringent measures against ‘DJ vehicles’ that use excessive sound and lights during festival processions. Under the Environment Protection Act, violators can now face up to five years of imprisonment and a fine of ₹1 lakh.
Following complaints regarding noise pollution affecting students during exam season, the DGP has directed officials to seize loud speakers and register criminal cases against offenders.
The move comes amid reports of health issues, including elderly citizens collapsing due to extreme noise levels. Additionally, the MVD has issued new guidelines for educational tours, making it mandatory for schools and colleges to inform the RTO at least one week prior to the trip. Buses found with illegal modifications, such as extra lights and high-decibel speakers, will face heavy penalties to ensure student safety. (KN)
