Kochi: In a major drug bust at a five-star hotel, the Kadavanthra police have arrested eight individuals, including a dentist, a lawyer, and a nutritionist. The arrested persons include event management owner Shaji Fernando (Shaun), dentist Benzi Rawther, lawyer Rohit Nair, and nutritionist Akbar Shah, among others. Police recovered quantities of hybrid cannabis, cocaine, methamphetamine, and ecstasy pills from their possession.
The investigation has now extended to a cruise party organized by Shaun on the government-owned luxury vessel ‘Nefertiti’ two days ago, where drugs are suspected to have been supplied. Authorities believe the seized narcotics were smuggled from abroad, prompting an additional probe by the Customs department. Officials identified Shaun as a key link in a network distributing drugs to students and youths in the city. (KN)
