Former Kerala Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s son, V.A. Arunkumar, emphasized that all the major issues his father fought for throughout his life remain deeply relevant today. Speaking to Twentyfour News, Arunkumar stated that whether it was his uncompromising stance against corruption, advocacy for environmental conservation, or fighting for the rights of the oppressed, VS fought till his last breath. He added that these timeless principles should be studied by the new generation.

Sharing poignant personal memories of his father, Arunkumar recalled how their family lived centered around his public commitments. “During our childhood, father was rarely home. It was only when he became the Leader of the Opposition that we started living together in Thiruvananthapuram, though he remained extremely busy even then. It was during his later years, when his health declined, that our entire family came together to care for him,” he recounted.
“Even today, none of us can fully accept the reality that father is no longer with us. Our minds prefer to believe that he is still right here with us, and that is the thought we live with every day,” Arunkumar emotionally expressed.
Marking the first death anniversary of the legendary leader, a statue of V.S. Achuthanandan was installed at his ancestral Velikkakathu House. The statue was jointly unveiled by his wife, K. Vasumathy, and son, V.A. Arunkumar. The memorial sculpture was crafted by renowned artist Unni Kanayi.
