Thiruvallam Bike Accident Takes Major Turn: IT Professionals Killed in Hit-and-Run, Car Driver Arrested.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant breakthrough, the Thiruvananthapuram police have revealed that the tragic deaths of two young IT professionals near Thiruvallam was not a self-accident caused by a speeding motorcycle losing control, but a fatal hit-and-run. A car had rammed into the rear of their motorcycle, causing the fatal crash. Following a swift investigation, the police traced the vehicle, seized the car involved, and arrested the driver, identified as Vishnu, a resident of Malayinkeezhu.

The deceased have been identified as close friends Naveen Cibi (25) from Ernakulam and Mridula Anna Oommen (25) from Thodupuzha. The duo, both working in the IT sector, were traveling from Thiruvallam toward the Kovalam beach stretch when the incident occurred. Ironically, yesterday marked Naveen’s 25th birthday, and the friends were heading to Kovalam to celebrate the occasion together.

Initial local reports suggested that the motorcycle lost control at high speed, crashed into the median divider, and slammed into an electric pole. However, during the primary inspection of the crash site, the Thiruvallam police team grew suspicious of the sheer force of impact. Mridula, who was riding pillion, had been thrown several meters away through the air before hitting the ground. The investigators concluded that the trajectory and distance were inconsistent with a simple skid or wind resistance.

Acting on these crucial leads, the police scrutinized surveillance and traffic CCTV cameras installed along the bypass stretch. The footage revealed a speeding car closely tailing the victims’ motorcycle moments before the crash. A registration check quickly linked the vehicle to Vishnu in Malayinkeezhu. A police team raided his residence late at night and discovered fresh dents and impact marks on the front portion of the car parked in the courtyard.

Upon being taken into custody and subjected to detailed interrogation, Vishnu broke down and confessed to the crime. He admitted that his speeding car rammed into the back of the motorcycle and that he panicked and sped away from the spot without stopping to offer medical aid. Both Naveen and Mridula suffered severe head trauma from the high-velocity impact, which led to their deaths. The police have recorded the formal arrest of the accused.

Naveen was employed as a software engineer with an IT firm at Technopark, while Mridula worked with an IT company operating out of the Kinfra park. The crash occurred just past the Thiruvallam toll plaza. Mridula died on the spot due to massive injuries, whereas Naveen was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital by emergency responders but succumbed to his injuries along the way. The two had been close friends since their college days.
