NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident in the national capital, a Class 11 student was gang-raped inside a moving sleeper bus. The 16-year-old victim hails from Uttar Pradesh. The perpetrators assaulted the girl over a distance of nearly 47 kilometers across the Delhi-NCR region before abandoning her near a major bus terminal. Delhi Police arrested the bus driver, Kuldeep, and the conductor, Sandeep, in connection with the crime. The incident occurred on the night of August 4 within the Kashmiri Gate police jurisdiction.
According to the Delhi Police, the student from UP’s Mainpuri district had left home following a family dispute to visit her cousin in Noida without informing anyone. Lost amidst heavy rain and darkness, she had to alight at Pari Chowk. Stranded in the rain, she flagged down an empty sleeper bus returning after maintenance work. The driver and conductor offered her a ride, convincing her that the bus was heading towards Noida Sector-63.
Shortly after the bus started moving, the conductor began behaving inappropriately. The victim revealed in her statement that both the driver and the conductor then brutally assaulted her and threatened to kill her when she resisted. As the sleeper bus had closed curtains preventing any view from the outside, no passersby noticed the crime. Police stated that the girl was subjected to horrific assault throughout the 47-kilometer stretch from Pari Chowk to Kashmiri Gate.
Late at night, the accused dumped the victim on the Ring Road near the Kashmiri Gate bus terminal and fled. The traumatized girl immediately contacted the Kashmiri Gate police station and reported the incident. Police swiftly tracked down and arrested Kuldeep and Sandeep from a bus parking lot in Timarpur. The sleeper bus used in the crime has been impounded, and forensic examinations are underway as detailed investigations continue.
