Premkumar Slams Kerala Govt: “I Won’t Be a ‘Maravazha’ or Silent Puppet”.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Popular actor and former Kerala State Chalachitra Academy Chairman Premkumar has launched a scathing attack against the Pinarayi Vijayan-led government, alleging complete neglect and unjust treatment. Expressing his resentment over his abrupt removal from the post, the actor stated that he refused to remain a “Maravazha” (a parasite/inactive person) who stays silent on public issues. He asserted that unlike other cultural icons who remain mute, he would continue to intervene in the problems of common people.

Premkumar alleged that his support for the ASHA workers’ strike was the primary reason for his “unceremonious exit” just a day before the State Film Awards announcement. He pointed out a “double standard” in the government’s approach, noting that poet K. Satchidanandan continues as Sahitya Akademi President despite openly criticizing the government, while he was discarded without even a formal communication. The actor’s public outburst has sparked a fresh debate on the freedom of cultural leaders in Kerala and has signaled his potential shift towards the Congress party. (Kerala news)
