TEHRAN: Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated on Thursday that two oil tankers and a tugboat caught fire in separate maritime incidents after attempting to navigate through unauthorized passages in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to the IRGC, one oil tanker struck a naval mine while attempting to traverse a restricted passage south of the strait. Simultaneously, another supertanker caught fire while exiting the eastern section of the waterway.
A tugboat that deployed to the scene to assist in extinguishing the blaze on the second vessel also subsequently caught fire, the IRGC added.
