RIYADH: The United States Embassy in Saudi Arabia has issued an urgent security advisory warning American citizens of escalating security threats posed by Houthi forces. The warning comes amid sustained drone and missile attacks targeting civilian airports and critical infrastructure across the Kingdom, which have caused casualties and severe travel disruptions.
In its official security alert released on Tuesday, the embassy stated that the Houthis have stepped up hostile operations against Saudi Arabia. The diplomatic mission cautioned that the ongoing military escalation could rapidly spread beyond the immediate conflict zones.
“US citizens should be aware of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures, flight cancellations, and travel disruptions. Please take extreme caution if you choose to use airports in Saudi Arabia,” the security bulletin read.
Contrasting the warning, the Saudi-led military coalition announced on Tuesday that its air defense systems had successfully intercepted and destroyed an explosive-laden drone launched by Houthi forces toward southern Saudi Arabia.
However, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree denied the coalition’s claims, stating that the group had not launched any targeted operations against Saudi territory or the Holy City of Mecca on Tuesday.
The fresh exchange of claims comes amid intensified hostilities between the Houthi movement and the coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government. Saudi Arabia has been leading the military coalition against the Houthis since March 2015, following the group’s capture of Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and surrounding areas in late 2014.
