Trump Considers Backing Militias to Oust Iranian Regime; ‘Venezuela Model’ Under Discussion.

WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing the option of supporting armed groups within Iran to overthrow the existing regime. According to a report by The Wall Street Journal, while a final decision on providing arms, training, or intelligence has not been made, Trump is open to the idea of empowering local factions to challenge Tehran’s authority.

The President expressed a preference for leadership to emerge “from within” Iran to ensure a stable transition. Trump has already engaged in discussions with Kurdish leaders regarding the regional situation. During a press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, he remarked, “Most of the people we had in mind are dead,” highlighting the leadership vacuum caused by the ongoing conflict. The administration is reportedly looking at the “Venezuela model” as a potential blueprint, where a successor from the existing system could maintain stability after the top leadership is removed.
