Indian Embassy Advisory: New Transit Route for Indians Returning from Qatar via Saudi Arabia.

The Indian Embassy in Doha has announced that measures have been initiated to coordinate the travel of Indian nationals wishing to return from Qatar via the Abu Samra land border. This advisory was issued by the Indian Embassy in Doha on March 14, 2026.

Those who wish to return to India by entering Saudi Arabia through the Abu Samra land border and then flying out via Riyadh or Dammam airports can avail of this opportunity.

Individuals wishing to return from Qatar in this manner can register with the Embassy by filling out the form available at the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScyH8SA8GQ2Ui7ZQkfI99k32bjPvg3RKW-PRuAsXbTKCZ3RwQ/viewform.

The Embassy stated that this database, led by the Indian Embassy in Doha, is intended to collect information and provide travel assistance to Indian travelers stranded due to the closure of Qatar’s airspace. It further noted that it may take up to 48 hours to obtain the necessary travel clearances for those who register.

The Embassy has also provided several guidelines to ensure smooth travel for those opting for this route:

  • Before proceeding to the Qatar land border, travelers must ensure they have their passport, a valid transit visa approved by Saudi authorities (either through standard procedures or a temporary transit visa via the Embassy), and a confirmed flight ticket from Riyadh or Dammam to their final destination in India.
  • The Embassy pointed out that since the visa provided is a temporary transit visa valid for only 96 hours, Saudi Immigration may deny entry to those without the aforementioned travel documents.
  • Those arriving by bus or group transport can complete immigration formalities at the Ministry of Interior office at the Abu Samra border.
  • Those arriving in private vehicles, such as sedans or SUVs, can complete their procedures at the border checkpoints.
  • Travelers are advised to use services from reliable travel agencies to ensure the vehicle used to cross the border has a valid cross-country permit and insurance, and that the driver possesses a valid visa.
  • To ensure a smooth journey and to facilitate any last-minute coordination required with Saudi authorities, the Embassy has directed travelers to reach the border between 6:00 AM and 8:00 PM. (PD)
