The historic Malakkuda Mahotsavam has officially commenced at the Poruvazhy Peruviruthy Malanada Duryodhana Temple with a traditional flag-hoisting ceremony. The event was held on the first Friday of the Malayalam month of Meenam, led by Shivankutty Oorali of the Kaduttashery family amidst a large gathering of devotees.

A highlight of the festival will be the Malakkuda convention on March 22, to be inaugurated by former Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan, where renowned lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi will be honored with the ‘Malayappooppan’ Award. The festival features a week-long schedule of cultural performances, culminating in the world-famous ‘Kettukazhcha’ and grand procession on March 27.

Elaborate arrangements have been made by the Devaswom and various government departments to ensure a smooth celebration, which will conclude with the lowering of the festival flag on April 3. (Kerala News)
