Death of Nithin Raj: Human Rights Commission Orders Probe into Allegations; Report Sought from Kannur Police Commissioner.

KANNUR: The Human Rights Commission has directed the Kannur City Police to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a report on the death of Nithin Raj, a first-year student at Anjarakandy Dental College. Commission judicial member K. Baijunath instructed the City Police Chief to look into the serious allegations raised by the family and file the report within a week.

Nithin Raj, a native of Anamangad in Thiruvananthapuram, was found lying below the college building last Friday. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he could not be saved. Following media reports regarding the incident and the family’s claims of harassment, the Commission took suo motu cognisance of the case. Nithin’s father, Rajan, has alleged that a teacher at the college frequently humiliated his son by making derogatory remarks about his caste, skin color, and financial background.

The relatives maintain that Nithin would not have committed suicide and that the death was a direct result of continuous mental harassment by the faculty members. They demand a transparent probe into these allegations of public shaming and discrimination. After the post-mortem procedures, Nithin’s body will be taken to his residence in Uzhumalakkal for the final rites.
