Cracks Reported in Chooralmala Township Houses; Officials Urge Residents Not to Panic.

Authorities from the Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS) have clarified that there is no cause for alarm regarding the cracks discovered in the first phase of the Chooralmala government township houses. Following reports of cracks in two residential units, ULCCS officials conducted an inspection of the site. They explained that such issues are often identified during the rigorous testing and quality control phases conducted before a building is certified as fit for occupation, and any defects found will be rectified immediately. ULCCS Chief Operating Officer Arun Babu stated that the cracks are minor and will be fixed as part of the standard pre-occupancy procedure.

Although the district administration had initially promised that the houses—inaugurated on March 1st—would be ready by the Vishu festival, delays in completion and the emergence of structural cracks have caused distress among the disaster victims. Residents, including a homeowner named Noufal, noted that the pace of construction slowed significantly after the official inauguration. In addition to concerns over the house quality, the victims are also worried about the suspension of government daily allowances. However, officials reassured that centralized facilities for all 178 houses in the township are complete and that the remaining work will be finished swiftly to facilitate the relocation of residents.
