KOZHIKODE: A 43-year-old native of Feroke, who was confirmed to be infected with the Nipah virus, has been shifted to a dedicated isolation ward at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. The patient was moved to the high-security isolation facility at around midnight on Wednesday with strict bio-safety protocols. Following the development, the Hospital Superintendent announced that stringent access controls and regulations have been enforced in and around the isolation ward to mitigate any risk of transmission.
As a matter of extreme precaution, public entry to the Savithri Devi Sabu (SDS) ward has been completely prohibited. Authorities have erected barricades around the perimeter of the specialized ward to isolate the zone, and vehicular parking in the vicinity has been strictly banned. The Superintendent added that all individuals, including patients being discharged from the hospital, must strictly use only the main gate of the medical college for entry and exit.
The virus was confirmed after the 43-year-old patient, who had been undergoing treatment with suspected symptoms, tested positive during sample analysis conducted at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital’s advanced laboratory facility. Due to the activation of the Nipah isolation unit, tight health surveillance and safety adjustments have also been introduced in the adjacent pay ward sectors. The hospital administration stated that these emergency measures have been deployed solely to ensure the safety of other patients and to prevent community spread, requesting full cooperation and support from the public.
