THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan announced in a press conference that Kerala has decided to continue with the central government’s PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme. However, the state government will officially seek critical relaxations in the existing terms and conditions of the agreement. The Chief Minister explained that the state found itself compelled to continue with the PM SHRI implementation under prevailing circumstances, adding that further course of action will be finalized only after receiving the comprehensive evaluation report from the designated cabinet sub-committee. The initial memorandum for the project was signed during the tenure of the previous Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.
A dedicated cabinet sub-committee has been formed specifically to formulate the state’s definitive stance and protective safeguards regarding the central project. Concurrently, Chief Minister Satheesan announced that the newly formed government’s initial ‘100-Day Action Plan’ will be officially launched and executed starting July 1. On the PM SHRI front, Kerala plans to coordinate and move forward in tandem with other non-BJP ruled states across the nation. The Chief Minister firmly stated that the administration is making calculated efforts to implement the project without compromising the constitutional rights and autonomy of the state, ensuring that complete freedom over the school curriculum remains firmly within the state’s domain.
