MUMBAI: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut has strongly reacted to co-star Vir Das’s social media post after he dismissed long-standing rumors that she had physically injured him during the filming of a kissing scene for their 2014 movie Revolver Rani. Calling the viral claims “pure fiction,” Vir Das took to X (formerly Twitter) to defend the actress against what he termed “unfair slander.” Responding to his clarification, Kangana mocked the source of the rumor on X, writing, “Thanks, Vir, but who is she? Ewww — seems like some weirdo using us to satisfy her demonic sex fantasies. I am eating your blood and you are traumatised and crying even today after a decade. How random.”
The old controversy resurfaced recently after a journalist claimed during a podcast appearance that Kangana had continued to kiss Vir Das even after the director yelled “cut,” ultimately leaving his lip wounded and bleeding. Clearing the record on Saturday, Vir Das stated, “Right. Just so we are clear. This story is pure fiction. Kangana was a complete professional and I still maintain she is a truly gifted artist. This is unfair slander against her. She went on to call me a terrorist a few years later for my comedy, but on set… no problems at all.”
The historical friction between the two prominent personalities dates back to 2021 following Vir Das’s viral stand-up monologue “I Come From Two Indias” performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. His commentary on India’s systemic issues, including farmers’ protests and sexual violence, drew heavy criticism from Kangana, who labeled it “soft terrorism” and called him a “criminal” on Instagram. Despite their public ideological clash, both actors have consistently maintained that their professional collaboration on the Sai Kabir-directed film Revolver Rani, which also starred Piyush Mishra and Zakir Hussain, was completely respectful and without any untoward incidents.
