KOLLAM: The Chavara police have formally arrested a Catholic priest in connection with a sexual assault case registered in the district. The accused, identified as Father Dennis Praveen, was taken into custody following a detailed complaint lodged by a young woman. According to law enforcement authorities, the victim alleged that the priest repeatedly subjected her to sexual exploitation and abuse under the guise of spiritual guidance when she arrived to attend a religious retreat. Police records indicate that the systematic abuse occurred on multiple occasions spanning a two-year period from 2022 to 2024.
The accused priest had previously worked and served at the Parimanam Carmel Bhavan Ashram in Kollam. Following his tenure there, he had relocated to another spiritual retreat center situated in Pulinkudi, Thiruvananthapuram. Acting promptly on the legal complaint filed by the survivor, the Chavara police tracked down the accused official, recorded his arrest, and have initiated a detailed statutory investigation into the sequence of events.
