Tragic Road Accident in Saudi Arabia: Qatar-Based Malayali Mother and Doctor Daughter Killed During Umrah Pilgrimage.

RIYADH: In a devastating road mishap reported from Saudi Arabia, two Keralite women belonging to a Qatar-based expatriate family lost their lives in a fatal car crash near Taif. The tragic incident occurred while the family was travelling from Qatar to the holy city of Makkah by road to perform the Umrah pilgrimage. The deceased individuals have been identified as Rehana (52), wife of Abdul Latheef (also known as Kunhumon) from Thekke Peediyekkal house in Rangattur, Malappuram; and her daughter, Dr. Nahla Narmin, aged 29. The accident took place in a locality called Dalam, situated approximately 200 kilometres away from Taif city.

The fatal crash was triggered by a freak freak weather element while the family’s Toyota Land Cruiser was cruising along the highway. Strong desert winds reportedly blew a large stray plastic sheet directly onto the front windshield of the moving SUV. This completely blinded the driver’s view within a split second, causing the heavy vehicle to lose total control and crash violently. The accident transpired at around 8 PM last evening.

There were a total of six passengers inside the premium SUV at the time of the collision, including the two deceased victims. The remaining four occupants—identified as Abdul Latheef, his two other daughters, and a young grandchild—survived the crash with various degrees of physical injuries and were immediately rushed for emergency medical care. The mortal remains of both Rehana and Dr. Nahla Narmin have been safely shifted to the mortuary facility at the Dalam Central Hospital. Close relatives, family friends, and community volunteers have already gathered at the medical center to complete the official paperwork and legal formalities required for the subsequent final rites.
