Big Hotel Chains Behind Illegal Wayside Eateries in Thiruvananthapuram; Police and Corporation Crack Down.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police inspections have revealed that major hotel networks are operating unauthorized wayside eateries (thattukadas) across the capital city. Large hotel chains have been running these food joints as a chain model in multiple locations, using common people and small-scale vendors as a front. Although the police recently cleared unauthorized stalls from areas including Kuravankonam, several have returned, prompting authorities to intensify strict action against road encroachments.

Lakhs in Financial Transactions During the police inspection at Kuravankonam, it was found that only a single vendor possessed a valid license to operate. The majority of vendors operating from vehicles and roadside setups were doing so illegally. Upon examining the UPI accounts of these vendors, financial transactions worth lakhs and crores came to light. The entire revenue collected was routed directly into the bank accounts of major hotels located in and around the city.
