ALAPPUZHA: Shocking details have emerged in the murder of 65-year-old Sivankutty at Karuvatta, with police discovering that a group of teenagers allegedly drew inspiration from the 2017 Tamil film ‘Spyder’ while planning the crime.
According to Haripad Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Kumar, one of the accused disclosed to investigators that the group had initially planned to remove the roof tiles of Sivankutty’s house, enter the premises, and drop a large boulder on him while he was asleep. This method was reportedly inspired by a murder scene portrayed in the film directed by A.R. Murugadoss.
“The presence of a wooden ceiling beneath the roof tiles prevented them from executing their initial plan,” the SHO stated. The investigation, which early on ruled out the involvement of a professional hitman, eventually led the police to a gang of teenagers, including a 13-year-old girl.
Police have reportedly recovered WhatsApp chats between the girl and her male friend, in which multiple methods to eliminate Sivankutty were allegedly discussed. These included poisoning him and knocking him down with a vehicle. Investigators also suspect that the group had approached a local quotation gang in Karunagappally to execute the murder, but the gang allegedly turned down the task despite being offered money.
According to the police, the accused travelled by train from Kollam to Karuvatta on Saturday night. After confirming that Sivankutty was fast asleep, they climbed onto the roof and attempted to enter the house by removing the roof tiles.
When that attempt failed, the girl reportedly texted her male friend informing him about a large opening near a ventilator through which a person could squeeze in. One of the accused then entered the house through the ventilator and opened the door for the rest of the group. When Sivankutty woke up to the commotion and went to check, the accused ambushed and fatally attacked him.
