ALAPPUZHA: The family of a 25-year-old woman, who committed suicide in Aroor, Alappuzha, after her groom called off their scheduled wedding, has raised serious allegations against his family. The victim’s family alleged that Anagha had sent a video warning her fiancé about her intention to commit suicide, yet he failed to inform her relatives. As evidence supporting their suspicion, the family handed over an audio message from the groom’s mother to the police. However, the police maintained that a case can be registered against the fiancé only after a detailed investigation.
The victim’s mother stated that her daughter ended her life out of extreme emotional distress after the groom’s family backed out of the marriage despite her begging them in tears. Anagha, a native of Aroor, and the young man from Thrissur had connected through Instagram. Both families accepted their relationship and conducted their engagement. The groom’s family withdrew from the alliance while preparations were underway for their wedding scheduled in November.
Even after Anagha travelled to Abu Dhabi, where the youth works, to resolve their issues in person, her efforts proved futile. Relatives picked up Anagha from the airport when she returned from the Gulf last Wednesday. That night, Anagha entered her room and committed suicide after her family went to sleep.
However, the family now suspects that Anagha had recorded a video after setting up a noose to hang herself and sent it to the youth, who in turn forwarded it to his mother. The family believes that an audio response from his mother, accusing Anagha of acting despite the suicide warning, pushed her to take the extreme step. Before her death, Anagha had forwarded that audio message from his mother to her own mother’s phone.
