The Jammu and Kashmir State Investigation Agency (SIA) has reopened the probe into the 1998 Wandhama massacre case that shook the Kashmir Valley. This move comes as part of a broader effort to reinvestigate old unsolved cases involving targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits during the peak of militancy in the region.
On January 25, 1998, on the eve of Republic Day and during a holy night of Ramadan, terrorists launched a brutal attack on Kashmiri Pandit families in Wandhama village of Ganderbal district. Terrorists barged into homes and shot dead 23 people, including 9 women and 4 children. Even decades after the tragedy, investigators had failed to break key ground in the case.
As part of intensifying the probe, the SIA conducted raids across various locations in the Valley linked to both the Wandhama massacre and the assassination of Kashmiri Pandit leader Tika Lal Taploo. The investigative team is working to identify the terrorists behind these killings along with their local conduits and bring them to justice.
