‘Sources Chosen to Understand Religion Were Wrong’: Sadiq Saqafi Criticizes CM V.D. Satheesan.

MALAPPURAM: The Samastha A.P. faction launched a sharp attack against Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan for criticizing Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar over alleged misogynistic remarks. Kerala Muslim Jamaat Malappuram District Secretary Sadiq Saqafi asserted that the Chief Minister was likely misled by his new political allies.

Clarifying that Kanthapuram was not above criticism, Saqafi emphasized that any critique should be based on merit. He stated that the Chief Minister’s remark claiming Kanthapuram misrepresented religion was deeply objectionable. Saqafi suggested that the sources the CM relied upon to understand religion were flawed and likely acquired from his new political partners, adding that misquoting Islamic terminology and historical context to justify his stance was an overreach.

The A.P. faction expressed strong displeasure over the CM issuing a harsh statement on the very day a priorly scheduled meeting was set to take place. They maintained that Kanthapuram’s statement was merely an advisory to mahal committees regarding religious celebrations and was misconstrued in campaign narratives. The faction plans to intensify campaigns highlighting that the CM’s statements were factually incorrect while building consensus among various religious leaders. Meanwhile, the Jifri Thangal faction noted that there is no novelty in Kanthapuram’s stance as it aligns with his long-held views.
