Karunagappally: Under ‘Operation Thunder’, Excise officials seized 5.836 grams of MDMA in Karunagappally. An Excise team led by Karunagappally Excise Range Inspector K. Biju conducted a raid at Punnakkulam in Kulasekharapuram and arrested Mithilaj (26), a resident of Binsad Manzil, Punnakkulam, Kulasekharapuram, and registered a case against him.
The team also recovered Rs 10,000 obtained from selling MDMA. Following confidential information regarding Mithilaj’s MDMA sales in Oachira and Vavvakkavu areas, he had been under covert surveillance by Shadow Excise and Excise Intelligence for the past week. Police and Excise have previously registered cases against him for possessing commercial quantities of MDMA and ganja.
Assistant Excise Inspector (Grade) Prasad Kumar J.R, Intelligence Preventive Officer Manu M, Preventive Officer Santhosh Kumar B, along with Civil Excise Officers Charles H, Ajith B.S, Rajith K. Pillai, Ansar, Nithin, Godwin, Stephen, and Preventive Officer (Grade) Tresa participated in the operation. The accused was produced before the court and remanded. The offence carries a punishment of up to ten years in prison and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh.
