New Delhi: On the occasion of Hindi Diwas, Union Home Minister Amit Shah urged the youth and parents across India to embrace global languages while remaining deeply connected to their native tongue. Highlighting the vital role of language in preserving culture and self-respect, he stressed that individuals should learn as many languages as possible without abandoning their mother tongue.
Reflecting on historical context, Shah noted that while the Constituent Assembly designated Hindi in the Devanagari script as the official language of the Union of India on September 14, 1949, issues regarding native language and culture were often sidelined after independence. He reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call from the Red Fort to liberate the nation from a colonial mindset, pointing out that linguistic pride is central to this effort.
He cited key structural changes—such as renaming Rajpath to Kartavya Path and replacing colonial-era criminal laws with the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam—as essential steps toward restoring national pride. Urging parents to regularly communicate with their children in their mother tongue, the Minister emphasized that no one should suffer from an inferiority complex regarding their language, as it serves as the ultimate bridge to one’s roots, heritage, and history.
