ANANTAPUR: In a horrifying incident, a 21-year-old man barged into a government school classroom in Andhra Pradesh’s Anantapur district and attacked two Class 10 schoolgirls with a motorized chainsaw. Police sources revealed that the suspect, who is reportedly the uncle of the primary victim, carried out the assault after she repeatedly rejected his romantic advances and stalking.
A massive manhunt has been launched to trace the absconding suspect, with law enforcement establishing 12 to 15 specialized police teams to track his whereabouts. According to investigators, the accused had been harassing and stalking the victim for a considerable period before the attack.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:30 AM on Saturday at the Zilla Parishad High School in Raptadu village. The suspect walked directly into an active classroom while lessons were underway in the presence of a class teacher.
Both schoolgirls sustained severe injuries in the attack, with one reported to be in critical condition. They were immediately rushed to the Government General Hospital in Anantapur. The critically injured girl underwent emergency surgery, with state authorities making arrangements to airlift her via air ambulance to a specialized facility in Bengaluru for advanced care. Preliminary police investigations identified the suspect as Hemanth, alias Dummu, a native of Nagalur village in the Dharmavaram mandal of Sri Sathya Sai district. A detailed investigation into the security breach and sequence of events remains underway.
Recounting the horrifying moment, class teacher Rajeshwari stated that staff initially mistook the intruder for a maintenance worker due to ongoing construction work on the school campus.
“Lessons were progressing smoothly after the first period, and all students were attending class. The classroom doors are usually left open. A man entered through the door, and before anyone could process what was happening, he launched the assault,” the teacher stated.
“He was alone and had started the chainsaw motor outside before stepping in. Given the noise of ongoing maintenance work on the premises, we initially presumed he was a laborer assigned to school repairs. He suddenly walked right into the middle of the room towards the girls. Before the children could even realize the danger or flee the room, the attack had already taken place,” she added.
