At least ten individuals, including three women, have been arrested by police for allegedly attacking Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and attempting to snatch their service weapons at Ashabari village in Tripura’s Sepahijala district, located along the India-Bangladesh international border. Three BSF personnel, including a Company Commander, sustained injuries during the violent confrontation.
According to police sources, the incident unfolded during a road blockade staged by local villagers protesting the alleged physical assault of a resident by BSF personnel who were conducting anti-smuggling operations in the area.
The situation rapidly escalated when an operational vehicle carrying the three BSF personnel arrived at the blockade site. Members of the agitated crowd allegedly ambushed the vehicle, brutally assaulting the uniformed personnel with wooden sticks and bamboo poles.
All ten arrested suspects were produced before a local magistrate court on Tuesday. The court remanded the seven male accused to four days of police custody for further interrogation, while the three female accused were sent to judicial custody for 10 days, officials confirmed.
