AGARTALA: Former Tripura Chief Minister and senior CPI(M) leader Manik Sarkar has strongly condemned the alleged attack on two Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in Asavari village under the Sonamura subdivision on November 2, characterizing the violent incident as highly unfortunate and unacceptable.
Elaborating on the sequence of events based on available information, Sarkar stated that the altercation initially broke out when BSF personnel attempted to intercept an individual allegedly involved in illegal cross-border transactions. The individual was reportedly assaulted during the encounter and sustained injuries, triggering anger among local residents who subsequently organized a demonstration and blocked the thoroughfare.
Sarkar further explained that two other BSF personnel, who happened to be traveling through the sector in a separate vehicle and were reportedly unaware of the ongoing confrontation, were intercepted, ambushed, and severely injured by a section of the protesters.
