Mahamagham Rift: Thirunavaya Temple Trustee Zamorin Urges Juna Akhada and Margadharshak Mandal to Unite.

MALAPPURAM: The trustee of the historic Thirunavaya Nava Mukunda Temple, the Zamorin, has formally appealed to the Juna Akhada and the Sangh Parivar-backed Margadharshak Mandal to settle their internal disputes and jointly organize the upcoming Mahamagham festival scheduled for January.

In separate communications dispatched in response to official applications from both factions seeking permission to utilize the temple grounds, the Zamorin clarified that the venue would be sanctioned only if the two groups reach a mutual consensus to conduct the event peacefully together.

“All sanyasi communities must stand together for the betterment of society. Without any underlying animosity or hostility, both groups should collaborate to conduct the Mahamagham peacefully,” the letter stated.

The development follows the receipt of four separate applications by the Nava Mukunda Temple Trust last month—two each submitted by the Juna Akhada and the Margadharshak Mandal.

The trustee’s intervention comes amid a persistent deadlock between the two monastic bodies, which had begun preparations to host parallel events after talks for a unified celebration collapsed. With the proposed event schedules overlapping, the temple administration faces a logistical bottleneck regarding the allocation of its sacred premises.

Meanwhile, the Juna Akhada has announced its plans to host a month-long Kumbh Mela-style festival from January 15 to March 6, with Mahamandaleshwar Anandavanam Bharathi slated to head the Thirunavaya proceedings.
