THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a major breakthrough in the murder of 17-year-old Plus One student Abhiram at Pangappara near Sreekariyam, the police have taken a female friend of the second accused, Umar Muftar, into custody. Investigators suspect that she had prior knowledge of the crime and assisted the accused in destroying evidence following the murder.
The involvement of the second female suspect emerged during the detailed interrogation of Umar Muftar. Investigative teams also discovered that immediately after committing the murder, Umar had placed a phone call to another acquaintance from the crime scene seeking assistance.
According to police findings, the victim was subjected to brutal physical torture before being killed. The post-mortem examination revealed severe injury marks on Abhiram’s head, neck, eyes, and chest. Preliminary details from the post-mortem report indicate that following the physical assault, the perpetrators strangled the victim to death using their hands and a belt.
