Embassy of India in Muscat Observes Janjatiya Gaurav Divas with Bhil and Warli Art Workshop.

MUSCAT: As part of promoting cultural ties with the diaspora (PCTD), the Embassy of India in Muscat organized an engaging workshop on traditional Bhil and Warli paintings at the embassy premises on November 2, 2026, in association with the Rangrez Group.

Observed annually on November 15, Janjatiya Gaurav Divas commemorates the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda—the revered tribal freedom fighter—while celebrating the invaluable contributions of India’s indigenous tribal communities to the nation’s history, culture, and heritage. The observance also acknowledges their historical role in India’s freedom struggle and underscores the significance of preserving their distinct cultural traditions.

The workshop offered participants a unique platform to explore and appreciate two distinct traditional Indian tribal art forms: Bhil and Warli paintings. Through their characteristic motifs, intricate patterns, and rich storytelling elements, these artistic expressions vividly reflect the profound connection that tribal communities share with nature, collective community life, and their cultural ancestry.

This initiative successfully highlighted India’s indigenous artistic traditions, reaffirmed the pressing need to preserve and promote tribal art forms, and fostered a deeper appreciation for India’s diverse cultural heritage among the diaspora.
