SASTHAMKOTTA: A 41-year-old man was stabbed to death following a heated altercation during a drinking session between friends in Sasthamkotta, Kollam. The deceased, identified as Shibu, a resident of Reshma Bhavan in Mynagappally, Kovoor, ran a motorcycle workshop near Mampuza Mukku on the Sasthamkotta-Chavara main road. His friend, Umesh (42), a resident of Valiyavila House in Pattakadavu, was arrested by the police from the crime scene. The shocking murder came to light after a heavily intoxicated Umesh told his neighbors while sitting in front of his house, “I stabbed him.”
According to the preliminary reports, a dispute that broke out while the duo was consuming alcohol inside Umesh’s house at Pulikkamukku, Pattakadavu, escalated into the murder. Local residents, who rushed to the spot upon hearing the commotion, found Shibu lying in a pool of blood inside a room and took him to the Sasthamkotta Taluk Hospital around 8:00 PM, but his life could not be saved. The police assume that Umesh stabbed Shibu in the chest with a knife following the drunken brawl. Due to extreme intoxication, the accused has been giving contradictory statements to the investigators. Umesh’s visually impaired mother was the only other person present in the house at the time of the incident.
