KOCHI: The Film Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) has officially lifted the ban on the highly anticipated Mammootty-Mohanlal starrer ‘Patriot’. The resolution came following a high-level meeting between producer Anto Joseph, representatives of the Producers’ Association, and FEUOK officials. The dispute, which had cast doubt on the film’s release, centered on the theatrical revenue-sharing model.
The conflict arose when the producers demanded a 60% revenue share for the first two weeks of the release. Typically, the standard industry practice is a 60:40 split in favor of the producer during the first week, which drops to 55:45 in the second week. After successful negotiations, it was agreed to stick to the conventional sharing pattern (60% for the first week and 55% for the second week), clearing the way for a massive release on May 1.
Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, ‘Patriot’ marks the historic reunion of Malayalam cinema’s biggest icons after an 18-year hiatus. Produced on an unprecedented budget, the espionage thriller was shot extensively across various international locations, including India, Sri Lanka, the UK, Azerbaijan, and the UAE. With the ban lifted, the film is now set to hit the maximum number of screens across Kerala and worldwide.
