NEW DELHI/TEHRAN: Reports indicate that Iranian forces have intercepted and turned back seven India-bound vessels in the strategic Strait of Hormuz. According to recent information, only one ship, the ‘Desh Garima,’ was permitted passage through the strait today. Amidst these developments, India has lodged a formal protest after an Indian vessel was reportedly targeted by Iranian forces. The Ministry of External Affairs summoned the Iranian representative to India, Dr. Mohammad Fattali, to express its deep concern over the incident.
The targeted vessel, identified as ‘Jag Arnav,’ was carrying 2 million barrels of Iraqi crude oil at the time of the attack. The UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center has confirmed that all crew members on board the vessel are safe. This escalation follows Iran’s decision to re-close the Strait of Hormuz shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the naval blockade against Iran would remain fully in place.
Iran has justified its actions by stating that conditions in the Strait of Hormuz will remain under strict control until the United States restores freedom of movement for all vessels heading to Iranian ports. The ongoing standoff in the vital waterway has raised significant concerns regarding the stability of global oil supplies and maritime trade routes.
