THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Health Department has announced that three mental health centres in the state will be upgraded to meet modern standards. The Health Minister made this announcement during a press conference on Wednesday.
The existing facilities will be completely transformed to create a better environment. As a first step, following directions from the High Court, the mental health centres are being renamed as ‘Happiness and Wellness Centres’. True to their new name, these facilities will be developed into spaces that promote happiness and well-being, supported by upgraded infrastructure and necessary staff deployments.
Moving away from the traditional approach of seeking medical help only after experiencing mental health issues, it is essential to adopt a holistic healthcare model that protects mental health and promotes a fulfilling life. The concept of Happiness and Wellness Centres serves as a key driver for this shift.
