CHENNAI: A division bench of the Madras High Court on Monday dismissed an appeal filed by two film financiers against a single judge’s order that cleared the deck for the theatrical release of the Vikram-starrer ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’. The highly anticipated spy-thriller has been entangled in prolonged legal and financial battles for years. The appeal was brought before the court by K. Prem Kumar and K. Punniyamoorthy, who were involved in a long-standing financial dispute with the filmmakers.
Earlier, in an order dated April 30, 2026, Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy had granted permission to release the movie under specific structural conditions. These stipulations included setting up a dedicated bank account in the name of Kondaduvom Entertainment—the production house associated with the film—to strictly manage and route all the revenues accrued from the theatrical run of the movie.
The single judge had also directed that none of the directors of Kondaduvom Entertainment shall draw any salary or receive a share of the profits from this project without prior permission from the court. Furthermore, celebrity director Gautham Vasudev Menon was ordered to arrange adequate financial resources to settle outstanding dues owed to the creditors before the film hits the big screen. Although the movie was initially slated for a late 2023 release, consecutive civil lawsuits and subsequent interim injunctions consistently disrupted the schedules of the filmmakers. The division bench that dismissed the counter-appeal comprised Justices P. Velmurugan and K. Govindarajan Thilakavadi.
