Man From Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir Crosses Line of Control to Meet Girlfriend Met on Social Media.

SRINAGAR: A 22-year-old man from Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) crossed one of the most heavily guarded borders in the world, driven solely by a relationship that originally began on social media. His desperate attempt to meet a woman in Jammu and Kashmir’s Uri sector ended abruptly, with alert Indian troops intercepting him moments after he set foot inside Indian territory.

At around 9:30 am on Sunday, vigilantly posted troops spotted a man approaching from the other side of the Line of Control (LoC) in the Silikote area of Uri sector. He was promptly detained soon after crossing over into the Indian side of the border. During initial questioning, he identified himself as Zeeshan Ahmad Mir, son of Lal Din Mir, and a resident of Painkadi in Muzaffarabad, PoK. He was also carrying a valid Pakistani national identity card that officially confirmed his personal details.

Zeeshan explicitly told the security personnel that he had taken the risk of crossing the LoC to meet his girlfriend from Uri, identified as Iram Bano, whom he had met through social media. According to official statements, the two had connected online and remained in constant contact over time, which eventually led him to take the highly risky step of crossing the heavily monitored border. Officials added that both Zeeshan and the local woman he claimed to have come to meet are currently being aggressively questioned by central security agencies. Authorities are also verifying his background claims and examining the overall nature of their digital communication. Security agencies are trying to establish the antecedents of the woman and are thoroughly scanning the digital chat logs and communication between the two individuals.

In a separate development along the border, troops successfully intercepted three men from Sopore who were allegedly attempting to illegally cross over into PoK via the Hathlanga-Nambla route during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. Officials identified the trio as Adil Hussain Dar, Ishfaq Ahmad, and Jaffar Ahmad, all residents of Sopore. Among them, Dar is a suspended personnel of the Territorial Army (TA-161), senior officials stated. The Indian Army, acting swiftly on precise surveillance inputs, apprehended them before they could reach the actual line of the LoC. All three individuals are currently being questioned to determine their exact motive and any possible links to cross-border networks.

The volatile Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir stretches across 740 long kilometres, passing through several rugged districts including Baramulla, Kupwara, Bandipora, Poonch, Rajouri, and parts of Jammu. The Indian Army consistently maintains a very strict vigil along the entirety of the LoC to prevent unlawful infiltration, exfiltration, cross-border drug smuggling, and suspicious drone activity emerging from across the border.
