KASARAGOD: The Jail Department has granted mass parole to the accused, including the prime accused, in the sensational Periya twin murder case. The parole has been sanctioned for the first accused Peethambaran, fourth accused Anil, fifth accused Gijin, seventh accused Ashwin, and fifteenth accused Surendran. The parole was reportedly rushed through just before the LDF government vacates office. All of them, having secured a 20-day parole, have arrived in Kasaragod district.
The case has been pushed back into a political storm following the mass parole granted to the key accused in the Periya twin murder, a crime that had completely shocked the state’s political landscape. The authorities have allowed a 20-day parole for five of the accused, including the prime accused. Peethambaran (first accused), Anil (fourth accused), Gijin (fifth accused), Ashwin (seventh accused), and Surendran (fifteenth accused) received the parole as per jail regulations.
According to reports, all the accused who were granted parole arrived in Periya Kalyot by Tuesday night on May 19, 2026. The swift manner in which the parole was cleared just before the LDF government steps down has now triggered intense political debates. Considering the gravity of the case and the socio-political impact of the twin murder, strong criticism and protests are mounting from UDF circles and various other quarters against the decision to grant simultaneous parole to the convicts.
