Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has concluded a significant tour of Gulf nations, signing long-term defense and security agreements with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar. During the visit, Zelensky aimed to portray the regional tensions involving Iran as part of a broader global conflict against the Russia-Iran alliance. The agreements focus on harnessing Ukraine’s military expertise to help Gulf nations counter threats from missiles and unmanned aerial systems (drones).
In Qatar, the Ministry of Defense confirmed a 10-year partnership agreement aimed at exchanging technical expertise and enhancing security cooperation. This move marks a shift in the region, as wealthy Gulf nations which had remained largely neutral since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine are now engaging more deeply with Kyiv.
Zelensky confirmed that similar decade-long pacts have also been established with Saudi Arabia. “We are talking about a 10-year partnership,” Zelensky told reporters, highlighting Ukraine’s role as a credible security partner in the face of shared geopolitical challenges. (WSJ & YNETNEWS)
