Kochi: In a major development to ease the ongoing power crisis in the state, MP K.C. Venugopal has intervened to secure 250 MW of electricity for Kerala from Himachal Pradesh. Venugopal held direct discussions with the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh to reach this agreement. The 250 MW share for Kerala will be allocated by reducing the current supply provided to Tamil Nadu. The decision comes as a direct result of Venugopal’s prompt political intervention.
While power shortages and unannounced power cuts continue to pose a significant challenge for the Kerala government, neighboring Tamil Nadu is facing a similarly severe electricity crunch. Opposition parties, including the DMK, have launched sharp criticisms against the Tamil Nadu government over widespread power disruptions, while ruling alliance partner VCK has also expressed strong dissatisfaction.
The Tamil Nadu government suffered a major political embarrassment when power abruptly failed during a live press conference held by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan in Vellore, which was broadcast on news channels. Following this incident, public anger mounted, with citizens taking to the streets in various parts of the state to protest against continuous nighttime power outages, further complicating the political situation in the neighboring state.
