THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a significant political development, senior CPI(M) leader and three-time MLA Aisha Potty joined the opposition Congress on Tuesday. Her induction marks the end of a long-standing association with the Left Democratic Front (LDF) spanning over a decade.
The veteran leader, who formerly represented the Kottarakkara constituency, officially took up Congress membership at a day-and-night protest site organized by the party in front of the Lok Bhavan.
Key Highlights:
Three-Term Legislator: Potty had a successful stint in the Assembly, winning from Kottarakkara for three consecutive terms on a CPI(M) ticket.
Surprise Move: The switch has caught many by surprise, as she had maintained a low profile and stayed away from active electoral politics for the past few years.
Political Shift: Her move to the Congress camp is seen as a notable boost for the United Democratic Front (UDF) ahead of upcoming political cycles in the state. (PTI)
