Internal Rift Surfaces as Scuffle Breaks Out on Stage at Congress Rally in Kuttiady.

KOZHIKODE: The Congress-led Opposition’s ‘Puthuyuga Yatra’ faced an embarrassing moment on Wednesday when a verbal spat over protocol escalated into a physical scuffle on stage in Kuttiady. The incident centered around Vadakara MP Shafi Parambil, who expressed strong displeasure over the order of speeches during the reception meeting.

The event, led by Leader of Opposition V.D. Satheesan, was reportedly delayed by over 90 minutes due to logistical issues. Tensions flared when DCC Secretary Pramod Kakkatil invited Satheesan to address the gathering before calling upon the local MP, Shafi Parambil. This deviation from the expected protocol sparked immediate protests from the audience. When organizers later tried to invite Shafi to the podium after Satheesan’s speech, the MP confronted them on stage, leading to a brief period of jostling and heated exchanges among leaders.

Visibly annoyed by the perceived slight, Shafi Parambil refused to deliver his scheduled address. In a brief and terse remark to the crowd, he stated, “I am not going to make a speech,” before stepping back. While the yatra aims to consolidate the party’s influence in the Malabar region, the incident has highlighted ongoing friction within the state leadership and local coordination committees. (TNIE)
