ALAPPUZHA: District Collector Alex Varghese has declared a local holiday for all government offices and educational institutions in Mavelikkara and Karthikappally taluks on Monday, February 23, in view of the Kumbha Bharani festival at Chettikulangara Devi Temple. The holiday has been granted as the grand festival, known for its spectacular ‘Kettukazhcha’ and ‘Kuthiyottam’ rituals, attracts lakhs of devotees to the region. While government offices and schools will remain closed, the Collector’s order specifies that all public examinations scheduled for the day will be conducted as per the previous schedule. Authorities have ensured enhanced security and traffic regulations to manage the massive crowds expected during the post-harvest cultural extravaganza. (TIM)
