MALAPPURAM: A 59-year-old man and his second wife were arrested on Thursday for allegedly inflicting brutal physical torture on three minor girls, including branding them with a heated ladle. The accused, identified as Rakesh Sharma and his wife Sheela Devi (34), both natives of Bihar, were living in Kavanoor near Areekode.
Key Details of the Case: The victims, aged 5, 11, and 14, were rescued after neighbours noticed multiple burn injuries and alerted the authorities on Wednesday. A police investigation revealed that the children were subjected to repeated physical abuse by their father and stepmother.
The children have been admitted to the Manjeri Medical College Hospital for treatment and are currently under the care of District Childline authorities. The accused couple has been formally arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
