Woman Alleges Police Brutality in Kollam; Claims Use of Lathi and Pepper Spray.

Kollam: A woman and her husband have come forward with serious allegations of police assault in Kundara, Kollam. Ashwani, a resident of Peroor, and her husband Ananthu claimed that officers from the Kundara police station brutally attacked them during an argument at the Kanjiramkodu temple festival on March 26.

According to Ashwani, the conflict began when she questioned the police for pulling a youth down from a vehicle, who then fell on her. She alleged that Sub-Inspectors Kiran and Atul struck her with lathis on her back and legs and sprayed pepper spray directly into her face, causing breathing difficulties.

The family also claimed that Ananthu was assaulted inside the police jeep and threatened with remand if they pursued legal action. While the police FIR states that the couple was inebriated and obstructed official duties, a formal probe has been initiated by the Sasthamkotta DYSP following complaints to the Chief Minister and the Kollam Rural SP.
